Carlos`s Happy Tail
At just four years old, Carlos arrived at HSPPR Pueblo in dire need of help. He had been hit by a car, leaving him in pain, bruised, and suffering from a severely broken front leg.
The veterinary team quickly stepped in to assess his injuries. Along with cuts and scrapes, Carlos’s front left leg was damaged beyond repair and ultimately needed to be amputated. But through it all, Carlos never lost his joyful spirit. He made fast friends with everyone he met, and honestly, you’d never know he was missing a leg with how quickly he adapted to life as a happy tripod pup!
After several weeks of healing and recovery, Carlos was finally ready to begin the next chapter of his journey – finding a home of his own. It didn’t take long for his infectious smile and sweet personality to steal the hearts of his new family, and before long, Carlos was on his way to the bright future he’d been waiting for.

This summer has been full of excitement for the Treetop Ten at Chimp Haven! Tequila’s group recently moved back into their habitat after some renovations – now fully equipped with a brand-new accessible play structure with ramps and climbing aids and other fun enrichment for them to enjoy! Tequila was one of the first to lead the way during the move and head to the moat to explore their new structures. He has recently been hanging out with groupmate Buster and knows the perks of being close to the alpha of the group! Even when other chimps like Mocha are busy with Positive Reinforcement Training (PRT) with their caregivers, he still loves to stay close by to get some fruit snacks. He and Inky are very nosy and involve themselves whenever care staff are around as they love the attention (and snacks). We’re so happy to see Tequila and his groupmates enjoying their upgraded digs and are sure we’ll see the group make some “blanket burritos” again once fall arrives. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing them soak up their last moments of summer!

I think we can all agree that it’s been a very long week. And while ARF’s campus has been spared for the most part, our community and the entire state of Indiana have been hit hard- the animals included. Tiny Noah arrived at the end of the afternoon. We don’t know what he’s been through in the last few days but we do know his worst days are behind him. And after what feels like 40 days of rain, we couldn’t think of a more fitting name for him then Noah.
Just one look at him and we knew he needed immediate help. He was covered in fleas- from head to toe- and weighed in at only 1.2 pounds. At approximately 9 weeks old, he’s about a pound underweight. He’s suffering from a very bad upper respiratory infection, and most likely has intestinal parasites.
He’s now been treated for his fleas, is on a five day course of dewormer, and has been started on a feeding regimen to help him safely gain weight. He’s also on antibiotics and eye drops for his upper respiratory infection.
We hope that Noah is on his path to recovery; and will continue to update everyone on his journey.

Ula`s Happy Tail
Handsome Ula was just three years old when he arrived at HSPPR in need of help. He was showing several concerning medical issues, including a head tilt, vision impairment, and little to no response to sound.
The veterinary team quickly got to work, performing a full physical assessment on Ula. They discovered he was mostly – if not completely – deaf, and blind in one eye. While the cause of his head tilt remained unclear, thankfully, it wasn’t affecting his health or quality of life. Despite his challenges, Ula was a happy, loving boy who simply needed an extra-special home.
About a month after arriving at HSPPR, Ula was transferred to one of our wonderful rescue partners, where he could continue receiving the specialized care and support he needed to thrive. His journey to a brighter future would not have been possible without your kindness.

Moses was brought to us after being struck by a car and was in need of immediate emergency medical care. Thanks to the generosity of the Doris Day Foundation, he was able to receive treatment at an emergency veterinary hospital, where his wounds were cleaned, treated, and carefully managed. Today, he has recovered from his injuries and is on the adoption floor, ready to find his forever home.

I`m delighted to share the impact of our July clinic held at Navajo Pine High School in Navajo, NM. In just three busy days, our dedicated team of staff and volunteers accomplished the following:
90 spay/neuter surgeries
319+ animals vaccinated
47 animals seen for illnesses or injuries
Each of the animals behind these numbers belongs to someone, and families got to rest easier after this clinic knowing their animals were taken care of. We`re so grateful that you were a part of making that possible.

When Lindsey Werner and her family moved into their new house, they didn’t expect unannounced tenants would soon come. But within a few days, one by one these furry kitties appeared!
They were thin, hungry, asking for love and needing to be fixed. With recently buying a home, expenses were tight. So Lindsey reached out to Spay Neuter Jackson County AL for help. Fortunately they were eager to do because of a Doris Day Animal Foundation grant!
These 3 beautiful cats picked the right home. Thank you DDAF so much for helping Lindsey and her family with their new residents! And so many NE Alabama pet owners!

An injured stray dog came to the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) in June. This cute 7- month-old puppy could not open his mouth very far. After an exam and x-ray at NHS, this little fellow was referred to a specialty veterinary clinic, where he was diagnosed with fusion of the cheekbone and jaw. This cutie, now Cheese Ravioli, received surgery at the specialist, to allow him to eat and drink more normally. After recovering with a foster parent, he was cleared for adoption. And in keeping with his recent good fortune, Cheese Ravioli was adopted by his smitten foster parent!
The Doris Day & Terry Melcher Foundation’s lifesaving grant for Cheese Ravioli’s surgery and medical treatments means this young dog can now have a full life without limitations. His medical costs totaled $4,088.52. Thank you so much for your compassionate gift!

Here is a video that tells the story of a feral cat, Chubby, who wandered into a colony where all cats had been sterilized by ACR.
Chubby was not neutered. He also had an immense gaping wound on his neck. So once we trapped him, we brought him to the vet for neuter and any / everything he need to repair his neck.
He had surgery and stayed at the vet for a while until the stitches and drain could be removed.
