Guilderhaven provides low-cost spay/neuter, food, medical intervention, and financial assistance for the companion animals of New York residents and for wildlife.  They also assist rescue organizations in this endeavor, with an emphasis on their local community.  In addition to spay-neuter services, Guilderhaven helps to place animals from private homes, rescue groups and animal shelters, and they  speak to school groups, youth organizations, and church groups, and produce an educational coloring booklet.  This booklet emphasizes the importance of responsible pet guardianship and humane behavior toward animals.

DDAF's grant will help Guilderhaven assist individuals and families living below the poverty level in Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Montgomery, Fulton, Schoharie, and Saratoga Counties, helping pet guardians to maintaining their responsibility to their companion animals, continuing their loving relationship without the financial burden. These efforts helpp to avoid animal abandonment and decrease the number of unwanted and abandoned animals in the shelters and on the streets.
